The Columbia Jail

The Columbia Jail has held its share of Gold Country desperadoes over the years. Built during the 1860’s, this tiny, solid building remained in use until the late 1930’s. Inside are two cells and a small space where the jailer could keep an eye on the bad guys. The brick and stone construction, and the sturdy iron door, provided what appears to be a quite effective lockup.
