Introduction

The Mining Camps

Gold Rush Players

The information contained within these pages is basically an extended, virtual edition of my book, The California Gold Rush: Highway 49 Revisited. Thus, these pages somewhat follow the same format. The Introduction gives a brief history of the discovery of gold in California, and the consequences of that discovery. The Mining Camps provide a detailed history of how the gold camps were founded, by whom, and how they prospered. Also included in this section is information that Gold Country travelers will find useful. The Gold Rush Players refer to some of the important figures of the Gold Rush, and provides a brief biography of those early pioneers.
