It's hard to believe, but this grassy meadow was once held the county seat of Mariposa County. According to one eyewitness, miners were "camped in every direction for five miles from the common center . . . in tents and huts of every description." It's difficult to imagine such a commotion in this peaceful locale, as nothing remains from those early days of Agua Fria.
