Dutch Flat

The I.O.O.F. Hall and Masonic Hall

The Masonic Hall is a two-story, wood-frame building located on the main street. It was built in 1856.

The I.O.O.F. Hall was built in two parts. The first section, a one-story stone building, was put up in the early 1850’s by Hank Hophloe, a miner who spotted an easier way to make a living. He ran a general mercantile which was well patronized by the local miners, who were always needing equipment and grub. The Odd Fellows leased the building in 1858, at which time they added the second floor for their meeting hall. They eventually bought the building and it came to be known as the Odd Fellows Building.
